‘The Voice,’ The Live Playoffs Results: TV Recap

‘The Voice,’ The Live Playoffs Results: TV Recap

NBC

Okay, this is getting exciting.

The audience votes came in, with fans selecting two out of five on each team. Then each coach had the chance to “save” one of the remaining three performers to go on to the next round. (Readers, please forgive me for missing last night’s episode.)

Let’s start with Cee Lo’s team. Trevin Hunte was in, and no surprise. You’ll recall he was so good in earlier rounds that Cee Lo tapped him over Amanda Brown. Amanda, I think it’s fair to say, now is widely seen as a front runner, if not the front runner. (She was stolen by Adam.)

More surprising, albeit a pleasant surprise, was Nicholas David, who fans also voted as a Cee Lo keeper. Unlike so many young contestants who sex themselves up, Nicholas is older, and (forgive me sir) downright dorky. But the fans seem to love him nonetheless. And justifiably so. Finally, Cee Lo “saved” Cody Belew.

Okay, back to Amanda Brown. The fans voted her in from Adam’s team, along with Bryan Keith. For his save, Adam chose Melanie Martinez, with the two-tone hair. Not my taste, but cleary Adam has been drawn to what he sees as unique qualities in her. And I’ll grant that she’s not the typical pop-y type.

On team Blake, I was glad to see Terry McDermott make the cut. Cassadee Pope also got voted in by the fans. And for his save, Blake went with Michaela Paige, which was something of a surprise. I figured his country connection would have worked in Liz Davis’s favor.

Finally, team Christina fans tapped Dez Duron and Silvia Yacoub. The determined De’borah didn’t make it. Rather, Christina saved Adriana Louise.

Folks, my betting is this contest comes down to a rematch between Trevin Hunte and Amanda Brown.

One last thought on gender. Interesting that of teams Adam, Blake and Christina, America voted in at least one guy, in Adam and Christina’s case the only guy. That could suggest the girls are voting for the guys. Meanwhile, Cee Lo’s final five were all guys. That’s probably because in the auditions, the women gravitated to Christina or heart throbs Adam and Blake.
