Chipotle Scares Up Two-Buck Booritos for Charity Today (Video)

Chipotle Scares Up Two-Buck Booritos for Charity Today (Video)

Halloween can be one long, scary night. First you've got to decorate the house with fake cobwebs and stuff, then you have to dress the kids up as zombies and princesses. Then you have to prepare for tiny little beggars showing up at your doorstep. You're going to need a little fuel (the vodka comes later).

Chipotle hears your cry for help (or is that the shriek of a hungry zombie?) with its Boorito fundraiser. From 4 to 11 p.m., show up at any Chipotle Mexican Grill in costume (no extra points if you dress like a giant taco or Chihuahua) and get your choice of burrito, bowl, salad, or tacos for only $2.

The best part (besides the fact that you don't have to add cooking dinner to your list of chores)? Proceeds from the fundraiser, up to $1 million, will benefit the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.

Watch The Daily Show's Rob Riggle completely screw up Halloween in a way that would make Clark W. Griswold proud:

Star Wars Episode 7: Dream come true or cosmic yawn?

Walt Disney Co. said it agreed to buy George Lucas's Lucasfilm Ltd for $4.05 billion in a deal that includes a new series of "Star Wars" feature films starting in 2015. (Posted on Oct. 30, 2012)

For years, it seemed like another "Star Wars" movie was just a dream, stillborn in a galaxy far, far away.

But down on Earth, the Walt Disney movie studio had different ideas, announcing on Tuesday that it planned not one but at least three new "Star Wars" movies, starting in three years' time.

Disney's $4 billion acquisition of George Lucas' Lucasfilm and the multibillion-dollar "Star Wars" franchise surprised investors and caused mixed reactions among movie fans, many of whom had little appetite for more Luke Skywalkers and Jedis.

"The series had stagnated creatively. This could go well...Or not," said Facebook user Chris Goodson.

Another user, Peter Campbell, voiced his disbelief, asking, "Is this for real? Oh please, enough with the Star Wars movies."

Lucas, whose imagination gave pop culture Princess Leia and her crazy cinnamon-bun hairstyle, the anti-hero Darth Vader and the catch phrase "May The Force Be With You," has insisted for years that he would make no more than the three original films and three prequels.

Lucas has often expressed frustration with criticism from many avid "Star Wars" fans who have taken issue with his director's cuts of the films.

"Why would I make any more," Lucas told the New York Times in a January interview about the "Star Wars" movies, "when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"

But seven years after the last picture, "Revenge of the Sith," Disney said on Tuesday it saw room for "Star Wars Episode 7" in 2015, with Episodes 8 and 9 to follow at two or three year intervals.

Some fans welcomed the prospect of new films. On the Facebook "Star Wars" page, user David Schmoyer said "it brings dreaming back to the place where many of us began to dream."

Others were less happy. User Andreas Pedersen called it "the worst April Fools' joke ever," while another fan, Brandan Sullivan, said "this might be the death of Star Wars."

"People don't seem to be recognizing that taking Star Wars out of George Lucas' hands is the best possible thing for the franchise," Jesse Taylor counter-argued on Twitter.

HAN SOLO, R2-D2, MICKEY AND MINNIE

In addition to new films, characters like Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi may find a home on the Disney XD cable TV channel, targeted at young boys.

Furthermore, Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger told reporters on a conference call that there was "ample opportunity" to extend the franchise in Disney's global theme parks, cementing the place of R2-D2 and Han Solo alongside Mickey Mouse and the Little Mermaid.

"Cool for another Star Wars but not sure I like Disney backing it," commented Janel Halstead on Facebook.

The "Star Wars" franchise has earned some $4.4 billion at the global box office since the first film was released in 1977, making it the third most successful movie property after "Harry Potter" and the "James Bond" series.

Like the boy wizard and the suave British secret agent, "Star Wars" has also spawned an empire of books, games and toys so large that it is often dubbed the "Expanded Universe."

It has also inspired a mini-industry dedicated to examining philosophical, spiritual and mythical themes, with many observers seeing Luke Skywalker as an embodiment of Jesus Christ and some seeing Yoda as inspired by a Mormon prophet.

Lucas, 68, said in a video posted on the StarWars.com website on Tuesday that he had story treatments for Episodes 7, 8 and 9 that he would hand over to producer Kathleen Kennedy to develop in partnership with Disney.

In the same video, Kennedy said Disney was the "best company possible to take Star Wars into the future," and assured Lucas that she would adhere to his creations.

"The main thing is to protect these characters to make sure they continue to live in the way you created them," Kennedy said.

'Star Wars: Episode 7' to hit theaters in 2015

'Star Wars: Episode 7' to hit theaters in 2015

'Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope,' the first film released in the series, came out in 1977.

20th Century-Fox Film Corporation/AP

'Star Wars: Episode 7' will come to theaters after Disney finalized a deal to buy Lucasfilm, and at least two more movies after 'Star Wars: Episode 7' are planned.

A new "Star Wars" film, so far titled only "Star Wars: Episode 7," is coming to theaters in 2015 now that Disney has bought Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas, for $4.05 billion, according to reports.

And that's not all – at least two films will follow episode 7, according to chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Robert E. Iger.

"Our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years," Iger said in a statement.

The 50 best movies of all time

"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," George Lucas said in a statement. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.

"I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come," Lucas continued. "Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment and consumer products."

There's no word yet on the plot of the films.

The last new "Star Wars" film was "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith" in 2005, which concluded the prequel trilogy that began in 1999 with "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace." It was a 16-year wait for "Star Wars" fans in between the original trilogy's conclusion, 1983's "Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi."

"Star Wars" will be seen outside theaters in the future as well, according to CFO and senior executive vice president of The Walt Disney Company Jay Rasulo.

"We also expect to utilize Star Wars in other businesses including Parks & Resorts, in games and in our television business," Rasulo said.

The Walt Disney theme parks already boast one Star Wars ride, "Star Tours," which was recently revamped to include more of the franchise's beloved characters like Darth Vader and more elements from the prequel films.

There had also been rumors of a "Star Wars" TV show, which, if it existed, would presumably now air on Disney-owned network ABC. In the past, Lucasfilm had stated that writers had begun work on scripts, and Lucas said that the show would be "soap opera" with a "film noir" atmosphere.

Reaction to the news by fans has been mixed.

"I'm quietly confident that the Disney buy out will be the best thing to happen to Star Wars in decades," Telegraph film critic Robbie Collins tweeted.

"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, who parodied the first three "Star Wars" films in three separate specials on "Family," brought up the animated film and box office disappointment released by Disney last year.

"Looking forward to seeing what exciting new Star Wars adventures will be cooked up by the dream factory that brought us Mars Needs Moms!" he said on Twitter.

A user named Olan Rogers focused on the monetary aspect.

"I'm sad to see George Lucas, who had such great ideals about filmmaking when he started Star Wars, abandon them for money many years later," he tweeted.

How to have a green Halloween

Halloween has only just begun and I’m already thinking about what to do when it ends. What to do with the pumpkin? What to do with the candy? What to do with the costumes?

I got some earth-friendly input from lifestyle and wellness experts Erica Reid (wife of Antonio “L.A.” Reid) and Latham Thomas. The two joined forces with Healthy Child Healthy World –  a California non-profit that empowers parents to protect their children from harmful chemicals — to offer a few tips on how to keep Halloween (and its aftermath) clean and green.

Compost Your Pumpkin: Cut the pumpkin into smallish pieces to aid the decomposition process and let the worms do their job. If you’re not into composting, try pumpkin recipes such as pumpkin pie or pumpkin ravioli.

Know what’s in those snacks: Kids will want to dive right into their Halloween goodies, but make sure you are aware of what they are eating. Many commercial snacks contain artificial colors, dyes, sweeteners, preservatives, hydrogenated oils and GMOs. Learn more at www.healthychild.org.

Craft your wrappers: Turn all those candy and snack wrappers into craft projects such as picture frames, purses, belts, jewelry and more.

Costume swap: Host a Halloween Costume Swap for your children and their friends. This will save everyone time, money and hassles.

Plan ahead: The day after Halloween means major discounts on decor, costumes and candy but consider limiting your purchases. Next year use items from nature for your decor such as pumpkins, gourds, leaves and beeswax candles instead of plastic cats, paper skeletons and electric lights. Choose costumes made from natural fabrics, host a swap (see above) or decide to make next year’s getups with items on hand.

What are some other ways to keep Halloween green?

The Wellesley Police Department would like to make some Halloween Safety recommendations to the residents in Wellesley.

The Town has no plans to reschedule the celebration of Halloween. Tropical Storm Sandy caused many trees and power lines to come down on Monday. The Department of Public works is working hard to clean the debris from the roadways and sidewalks throughout town.

The Wellesley Police Department, the Department of Public Works and the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant are requesting the assistance of the public with clearing branches, leaves and other debris from walkways, sidewalks and driveways.

Due to the fact that there may still be many sidewalks and roadways that have debris on Halloween night the Wellesley Police Department is encouraging those families and children who go out Trick or Treating to follow these safety suggestions:

Walk on sidewalks whenever possible, but be cautious of possible debris, tree branches and wires that may still be on the walkways, sidewalks and roadways.

Trick or Treat close to your home, on streets that you and your family are familiar with.

Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.

Bring a flashlight with you and keep it on at all times to help you see the pathways and walkways better and others that may be out Trick or Treating.

Always WALK and don’t run from house to house.

Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.

Wear well-fitting masks, costumes and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips and falls.

Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.

Go out early when there is still some daylight and return home early to keep everyone safe.

Don’t stop at dark houses. Never accept rides from strangers and only enter homes if you are with a trusted adult.

We would also like to remind the motoring public that there will be a large amount of youths who are out Trick or Treating and to use caution when driving. Be cognizant that children may sometimes quickly dart across the roadway so we would encourage everyone to drive slowly.
The Wellesley Police Department will have extra officers on patrol in the neighborhoods to help ensure the safety of those who go out Trick or Treating.

One Direction release 'Little Things', still 'love' you even though you're fat and terrible

One Direction release 'Little Things', still 'love' you even though you're fat and terrible

One Direction dropped their new Ed Sheeran-penned single, “Little Things” — a followup to their hit “Live While We’re Young” and the second track released from the upcoming Take Me Home — this morning, and as expected, there’s nothing “little” about its online reaction.
Though the official lyric video has only been live for a few hours, it has already received over 127,000 likes and 55,000 comments on YouTube, and as young girls across the U.S. wake up today and check their Tumblrs, those metrics are only going to soar higher.
Because of that massive, adoring fanbase of occasionally irrational Directioners, I realize what I’m about to write might not be especially popular, but I’ve got to be honest: this song is kind of messed up.
Yes, it’s a pretty, strummy offering that gives each boy his own solo (for the first time, every individual’s voice is clearly recognizable), and yes, the stripped-back melody is rather lovely and characteristically Ed Sheeran-y, but it’s the lyrics that I find troubling. I mean, just look at ‘em:
EW DAILY POLL: Funnier hurricane hero?
“I know you’ve never loved the crinkles by your eyes,” sings Liam Payne during the second stanza of the song. “You’ve never loved your stomach or your thighs / the dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine / but I love them endlessly.” Later in the song, during Harry Styles’ verse, he sings, “You still have to squeeze into your jeans / but you’re perfect to me.”
Perhaps I’d hear those lyrics differently if Ed Sheeran had released this song for his own fans, but this is officially a One Direction song now, and there’s something icky about the endlessly coiffed and tailored (not to mention athletically-built) boys delivering those words. Last I checked, One Direction’s fans aren’t composed mainly of aging obesity victims — they’re little girls who range in age from about 8-14.
At the older end of that spectrum are girls currently enduring middle school, who may very well be feeling insecure about their bodies. In that case, it seems terribly misguided (or at least ruthlessly conniving) to tap into that insecurity with “Little Things” and ask girls to find their validation in One Direction’s blanket affection. But I could maybe see how people would find the words sweet.
More troubling to me are the younger fans who listen to this song. The carefree 9-year-olds who nibble on fruit roll-ups on the way to gymnastics class. The ones who watch Good Luck Charlie before bed, getting one last year out of their Sleeping Beauty nightgowns. “Little Things” presupposes insecurity in order to be effective lyrically, but for all those happily naive fans that (thankfully!) aren’t dealing with body image issues, One Direction literally provides insecurities for listeners to feel.
But that’s just part of why the whole pseudo-chivalrous “You’ll never love yourself half as much as I love you” vibe feels so disingenuous. One Direction doesn’t — they simply can’t — love each of their fans as much as they say they do. Not in the way an insecure person needs to be loved to escape that awful cycle of self-reflection. They’re an international phenomenon touring the globe and clinking glasses with the rich and beautiful, not psychiatric counselors. Their therapy by way of crooning is simply undercooked.
Give the song a listen below.

So, you tell me. Is there something insidious in those lyrics, or am I being melodramatic?

Professional wrestler Hulk Hogan's ex-wife Linda was a guest on the Oct. 29 edition of "Access Hollywood Live" to promote her new memoir "Wrestling the Hulk: My Life Against the Ropes." And of course hosts Billy Bush and Kit Hoover had to bring up the infamous Hulk sex tape.

"It really is quite an embarrassment for our family," Linda tells the hosts in the video clip below. "I'm not really shocked because I knew that he was having affairs and I knew that he was cheating."

Hulk insists he had no idea he was being filmed in bed with Heather Clem, the wife of his radio DJ friend Bubba the Love Sponge. Following the confidential settlement of a lawsuit Hulk brought against Mr. Love Sponge, Bubba read a statement on his syndicated radio show confirming that Hulk had no knowledge of the tape.

"It actually did make me upset," Linda says about seeing the tape. "I've seen him on TV so much, but this was different. To see your husband in a room with another woman ... It's a whole life of deception. I'm glad to be away from that now."

As an added bonus: Near the end of the clip, Bush refers to the sex tape as "the Hulk Hogan love tape thing," which somehow makes this whole mess even creepier.

Google and LG confirmed today the long leaked Nexus 4 smartphone, which will run on Android 4.2.
The Nexus 4 marks the first Nexus device built by LG, with Google looking to expand its partnerships and keep some of its partners thriving in the brutally competitive smartphone business.
"This is the first time we collaborated with LG to build a Nexus device," Andy Rubin, who runs Android at Google, said in a statement. "They brought an extraordinary amount of talent to the project, and the result is a feature-packed device that feels great in your hand and blazingly fast under the hood."

"LG is proud and excited to play this role in helping build the latest Nexus smartphone," said Jong-Seok Park, CEO of LG Electronics's mobile arm.
The Nexus 4, as previously reported by CNET, is an altered version of LG's flagship Optimus G smartphone. The phone is one of the first with Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon processor, and features a 3G connection using GSM and HSPA+ technology. Unfortunately, a 4G LTE model isn't yet available.
The 8GB and 16GB unlocked versions of the smartphone go on sale for $299 and $349, respectively, in the Google Play store on November 13 in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Germany, France, Spain, and Australia. Offline availability in Europe, Central/South Americas, Asia, and the Middle East will begin at the end of November.
In the U.S., T-Mobile will sell the 16GB version of the Nexus 4 for $199 with a two-year contract on November 14.
LG has long struggled to really stake a position in the smartphone business, particularly in the U.S., where it is overshadowed by its Korean rival Samsung Electronics. The company has tried to turn its Optimus brand into the kind of household name that Samsung's Galaxy S has become, but with no where near the same success.

The Nexus 4 is just one of the latest devices to run on Android 4.2, which will still be called Jelly Bean like Android 4.1. Google also unveiled an upgraded version of the Nexus 7 tablet, as well as a high-end, high-resolution Nexus 10 tablet from Samsung.
Google was slated to unveil the products at an event in New York today, but it was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy.
The Nexus 4 also comes with 2 gigabytes of RAM and features a true high-definition 4.7-inch IPS Plus display, a 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, an NFC connection for Google Wallet payments, and wireless charging capabilities.

Superstorm Sandy's wrath: Deaths, flooding, outages – and no end in sight

Editor's Note: A true picture of Sandy's wrath won't be apparent until daylight Tuesday, but every passing hour is bringing fresh reports of damages from the destructive superstorm. The storm has already claimed 13 lives in the United States and left untold number in flooded homes and without power from South Carolina to Maine. Here is the full story.

Are you there? Send your stories and photos to CNN iReport but stay safe.

Here are the latest developments:

[Update 1:57 a.m.] The 2 a.m. advisory is out: Superstorm Sandy continues to pack hurricane force winds more than five hours after making landfall along the coast of southern New Jersey, according to the 2 a.m. ET advisory from the National Weather Service. The system is centered about 10 miles southwest of Philadelphia.

[Update 1:38 a.m.] The U.S. death toll from Sandy now stands at 13 after police in Pennsylvania said an 8-year-old boy died Monday after he was struck by a tree limb in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.

[Update 1:32 a.m.] New power outage numbers: 5.5 million customers in 13 states and Washington D.C., according to a CNN tally.

[Update 1:27 a.m.] Now come the blizzards. The National Weather Service says a blizzard spawned by Sandy will bring 2 to 3 feet of snow to the mountains of West Virginia, with 1 to 2 feet expected to fall in Southwestern Virginia. Another 12 to 18 inches of snow will fall in the mountains near the Tennessee-North Carolina border.

[Update 1:22 a.m.] Reporter Jeff Pegues with CNN affiliate WABC says the howling winds and rising waters of Sandy shorted out power lines and sparked a major fire in the Rockaway Park area of Queens Monday evening, according to firefighters.

[Update 1:15 a.m.] NYU Langone Medical Center says backup power to the facility has failed. The hospital is evacuating all patients now. Earlier, it had said it was evacuating nearly all.

[Update 1:03 a.m.] Trillian Media captured this explosion at a Con Edison power plant Monday evening, that plunged many New Yorkers in the dark. The explosion happens around 18 seconds - and you can see parts of the city slowly go dark.

[Update 12:51 a.m.] More than 99 blood drives in the Northeast have been canceled due to Sandy. This is likely to create a blood shortage in the Northeast as emergency crews work to help those injured. To help with the anticipated shortage, the Red Cross is encouraging people throughout the country to donate blood. People can also donate $10  to disaster relief efforts by texting REDCROSS to 90999, or they can contribute online at www.redcross.org. “We are expecting to been a very long and difficult situation,” said spokeswoman Kristiana Almeida.

Bob Ross: How did he get so mellow? (+video)

Bob Ross, whose 70th birthday is celebrated Monday with a Google Doodle, said that one experience made him vow never to raise his voice again.

Bob Ross was the host of 'The Joy of Painting.'
YouTube

Painter Bob Ross, whose 70th birthday is celebrated with a doodle on Google's home page, was famous for his soothing voice.

“We don't have mistakes here,” the host of the long-running PBS program, “The Joy of Painting,” would often say as he completed a landscape painting using oils. “We just have happy accidents.” When adding items, Ross often referred to them as “happy”: the artist would dab in a “happy little cloud” or a “happy little tree.”

“His style is as soothing as warm milk and cookies,” Orlando Sentinel writer Linda Shrieves wrote.

The 50 best movies of all time

What made the painter so softspoken? Ross said that he promised himself he would keep his voice down after his time in the military. The artist joined the Air Force when he was 19 and was sent to Alaska, the place where he saw daily the geographic features like mountains and snow that would feature heavily in his “Joy of Painting” artwork. (Ross was originally from Florida and then went to high school in Pennsylvania.) The artist started painting landscapes on tins used for gold-panning on his lunch breaks and sold them to gift shops to make extra cash while in the military.

But it was his job as first sergeant that made Ross promise himself to never scream again when he left the Air Force.

“I was the guy who makes you scrub the latrine, the guy who makes you make your bed, the guy who screams at you for being late to work,”' he told the Orlando Sentinel. “The job requires you to be a mean, tough person. And I was fed up with it. I promised myself that if I ever got away from it, it wasn't going to be that way any more.”

Ross started his public-access TV show in 1983, on which the artist was able to create a painting quickly by using the wet-on-wet oil technique. Wet-on-wet oil painting lets an artist add wet paint on top of a layer that is still wet and thus complete the artwork more quickly rather than requiring the painter to wait for one layer to dry.

Bob Ross remixed by Symphony of Science's John D. Boswell for PBS Digital Studios.

Though the TV series ended in 1994, a year before Ross passed away, clips and full episodes of his shows on YouTube have individually racked up millions of hits, with one video titled “Bob Ross: Painting Mountains” boasting more than 4 million views.

“'I don't intimidate anyone,” Ross said in an interview with the Sentinel of his show. “Instead, I try to get people to believe in themselves. I tell people, 'You can do this.' And they write back and say, 'You were right. I can do this. And now I believe I can do anything.’”

Steelers suddenly dangerous with Dwyer

Steelers suddenly dangerous with Dwyer

(AP Photo/Don Wright)
Running back Jonathan Dwyer gives Pittsburgh's offense a dangerous new dimension.

PITTSBURGH -- Much has been made of the Pittsburgh Steelers' dink-and-dunk offense and how the short passing game has taken away the explosiveness of the attack. After the Steelers' 27-12 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday, I'm here to endorse the dink-and-Dwyer offense.

With a running game, the Steelers have the look of a dangerous team. The look of those 1934 bumble-bee throwback uniforms? They were almost as scary as the prospect of Ben Roethlisberger throwing over the top of a safety who has had to creep in because of Pittsburgh's ground attack.

Jonathan Dwyer, with 107 rushing yards against the Redskins, has produced two 100-yard games in two starts and three in just 13 NFL games. He became the first Steelers' running back since Willie Parker in the first two weeks of the 2008 season to record at least 100 yards in back-to-back games. And he's averaging 6.7 yards per carry in his two starts.

All of a sudden, the Steelers have gone from nearly pushing the panic button to causing the division-leading Baltimore Ravens to sweat. Pittsburgh (4-3) has crept to within one game of Baltimore (5-2) primarily on the legs of Dwyer.

The Steelers gave the ball to Dwyer because they didn't have a choice. Their top two running backs, Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles) and Isaac Redman (ankle), have been sidelined the past two weeks.

Now, after what Dwyer has shown the past two games, the Steelers don't have a decision at starting running back. They can't take the ball back from Dwyer. He's breaking long gains. He's delivering the key run at the end of games. You have to keep feeding the ball to Dwyer until his play tells you otherwise.

"He's answered the call and taken advantage of and opportunity," coach Mike Tomlin said. "That's what we expect from all of our young people. He did the job today, but obviously, I read his name here when I talked about the list of injuries. So, I'm not going to speak too soon on that. We'll check the totality of all of the people involved and the healthy guys get the opportunities next week."

Dwyer's right quadricep muscle tightened up on that final drive and forced him to leave the game early. Dwyer, though, said he's fine. There's a chance Mendenhall could be ready for next Sunday's game at the New York Giants, and Redman might be available after returning to practice this past week.

If all of the running backs are healthy, does Dwyer get the nod to be the starter?

"I'll see what they look like next week," Tomlin said. "You're not getting it today."

If Dwyer can go, he should be the Steelers' starter. I'm not sure it's even a question at this point. The Steelers' run game got off to its worst start in 62 years, totaling 195 yards in its first three games. In his past five quarters, Dwyer has produced 179 yards on the ground.

This isn't a push to make Dwyer the permanent starter for the rest of the season or even next year. The Steelers can always turn back to Mendenhall or Redman if Dwyer struggles or starts to fumble again. But Dwyer has earned the right to remain the starter heading into next Sunday.

What stands out about Dwyer is the combination of power and quickness. He can run in between the tackles like Redman and he can break a long one to the outside like Mendenhall. Dwyer isn't dazzling with great open-field moves. He's direct and simply produces.

How important is the running game for the Steelers? They are now 10-0 when they rush for at least 120 yards since the start of the 2011 season and 6-7 when they rush for fewer than that.

"That's the dynamic that we have to have," left guard Willie Colon said. "If we stay one dimensional, I think we kill ourselves. We got to be able to run the ball. When we stay efficient, they crowd the box and we got some stud receivers who can stretch the field. The sky is the limit."

No one knows Dwyer's ceiling at this point. The 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year lasted until the sixth round in the 2010 draft, and some of that fall had to do with rumblings that he wasn't dedicated enough.

Dwyer confirmed those fears when he reported to his first two training camps overweight, which led Tomlin to limit Dwyer's touches and playing time. This year, Dwyer reported in better condition and got more opportunities early until he made a costly fumble in Oakland on Sept. 23.

After sitting out the next two games following that turnover, Dwyer not only got a chance to suit up again but received his first start when Mendenhall and Redman were sidelined. Dwyer hasn't dropped the ball since and he's smart enough not to publicly campaign for a starting job.

"I'm not going to sit here and talk about that. I am going to just do what I have to do to help us win," the soft-spoken Dwyer said. "In all reality, I'm just trying to solidify myself around here and around the league as well. Knowing that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, I'm going to do whatever I have to do to live my dream every day."

While Dwyer didn't reach the end zone, he had a hand in finishing off the game for a second straight week. In the Steelers' last drive, he gained eight yards on second-and-seven and 13 yards on second-and-nine as the game nearly wound down to the two-minute warning.

It capped a 107-yard game for Dwyer, a performance that was impressive considering the opponent. While it was expected that Roethlisberger would have a big game against the NFL's worst pass defense, Dwyer broke runs against the league's No. 7 run defense that held teams to 85.3 yards rushing and 3.9 yards per carry.

"He runs hard," Roethlisberger said. "We know when we put the ball in his hands, he is going to give you everything he's got. He brings a little bit of power and a little bit of quickness. He brings a little bit of speed -- not a lot of speed. He just runs hard. He runs with a passion and he's fun to watch."

How Dwyer finishes this season could determine how the Steelers handle the running back position in the offseason. Dwyer is a restricted free agent just like Redman. Mendenhall will be an unrestricted free agent.

If Dwyer continues this run, he may be the Steelers' back for the long run.

"I knew that if I stayed patient, my opportunity would come," Dwyer said. "It's just about using the opportunity to make a statement and taking advantage of it."

Dwyer has made a statement in two career starts. Now, the Steelers have to make one by keeping him as their starting running back.

WWE Hell in a Cell 2012 Results: Who Won the Ryback vs. CM Punk Championship Match?

WWE Hell in a Cell 2012 Results: Who Won the Ryback vs. CM Punk Championship Match?

he WWE Hell in a Cell 2012 results have now been finalized with a major championship on the line in the main event. With the WWE title being contested inside the demonic, hellish cage structure, fans are wondering who won the Ryback vs. CM Punk match.

In this Hell in a Cell match, it seemed WWE had a real dilemma on its hands. On one side, they had CM Punk, the reigning champion for 343 days now. On the other hand, they had Ryback, a seriously "unstoppable" superstar who has been undefeated during his latest stint with WWE. So one of the two would have to lose the match, as Hell in a Cell matches can only be decided by a pinfall or submission inside the cage.

The match featured plenty of carnage and weaponry. Ryback didn't use any weapons, but Punk certainly made use of what he could, including a fire extinguisher, steel chairs, and kendo stick. None of it was enough to shut down the hungry Ryback, who continued to withstand everything, and eventually had Punk ready for the big finish. With Punk on Ryback's shoulders, it looked like the challenger would hit Shellshocked for the championship win.

However, a big surprise came as Ryback was about to do the move. The referee began to make some sort of gesture towards him to tell him to stop, then got down to the mat and hit a low blow on Ryback. With that, Ryback fell to the mat in pain, and Punk took a pinfall. The crooked referee counted a fast pinfall to give the win to Punk, keeping the WWE championship around his waist.

Ryback got retribution on both the referee and Punk post-match as he beat them up around the cage. The Pay-Per-View eventually ended with Ryback chasing Punk to the top of the Hell in a Cell cage and hitting his finishing move, before standing tall in front of the fans. By the way, for those wondering, the referee appeared to be the same guy who got chewed out by Punk and Heyman on Raw weeks ago as a "replacement official" who missed seeing Punk's leg on the ropes during a pinfall John Cena scored.

Many fans are going to dislike the finish, but as mentioned, WWE didn't have many ways to go with this. With this win, Punk's title reign may technically have an asterisk next to this win, and it may also be a match eventually removed as a loss from Ryback's record. That's the best way to look at it, due to another Pay-Per-View title match ending with a "screwjob." However, it's going to be interesting to see where things go from here in terms of a rematch, or Ryback's push.

WWE fans, what do you think of the way the CM Punk vs. Ryback championship match ended? Was this expected, or did you expect something else to happen? Will Ryback get a rematch?

Waves pound Carolina Beach pier in Carolina Beach, N.C., Saturday, Oct 27, 2012, as Hurricane Sandy churns in the Atlantic Ocean.

Determine whether you live in a hurricane evacuation zone by using the city's Hurricane Evacuation Zone Finder, www.NYC.gov/hurricanezones, calling 311 (TTY: 212-504-4115) or consulting the map below.

Subway and train service will come to a grinding halt by 7 p.m., Cuomo said, while bus service will begin its shutdown at 9 p.m.

It is unclear how long mass transit will remain out of service, the governor said.

"This is nothing to play with," said Cuomo, referring to the killer ’cane that is set to make landfall in south Jersey Tuesday morning. "This is nothing to take lightly.

"You want to stay at home, be prepared, enjoy the family, read a book," Cuomo said.

The violent squall — already being dubbed “Frankenstorm” because it will combine with a storm system from the west and cold air from Canada — is expected to wreak havoc on the New York region.

Amtrak announced Saturday that it would halt train service to parts of the East Coast, including trips between Washington and New York. Airlines have started adding Sunday flights out of New York in preparation for flight cancellations on Monday.

Meanwhile, Nassau and Suffolk county officials have urged residents of low-lying areas to evacuate. Officials have ordered a mandatory exodus from Fire Island.

Officials are also activating 1,100 National Guard members, 400 on Long Island and 200 in the city.

The state Department of Health is ordering that all adult nursing homes be staffed at 150 percent of standard levels and that staff is prepared to stay for 48 to 72 hours, the governor said.

Utility companies across the state will also be on standby to help with power outages.

"In a situation like this you prepare for the worst and hope for the best," Cuomo said.

Notre Dame tops Oklahoma, improves to 8-0

Notre Dame tops Oklahoma, improves to 8-0

Fireworks burst past the stadium rim and towels waved and an ear-splitting froth greeted Notre Dame, which merely had the chance to redefine itself on this night. The whole season crackled with possibility, but this was something different, something long-sought and elusive at hand.

At the end of it all, as the Irish pranced about and mugged and yelped before what remained of a Memorial Stadium-record crowd of 86,031, there was no point in discussing whether Notre Dame was back. It was of much greater importance to discuss where Notre Dame was going, and the dizzying heights in clear sight.

There are no questions now, not after a stirring 30-13 win over BCS No. 8 Oklahoma, any and all doubts blasted into a black sky on the plains and replaced by dazzling possibility. There is no mistaking what this meant: No. 5 Notre Dame, at 8-0, is a national championship contender. The path to a first title since 1988 may well be cluttered, but it is a path, and it is dead ahead.

"It feels good to know we're heading in that direction -- that's all that means," Irish linebacker Manti Te'o said. "Eight-and-0, all that means is we have a chance. That's all it means. We have four more games we have to really pay attention to. We're going to start one game at a time, like we've always done."

As resolutely straight-legged as the Irish stood against it, delirium has begun, with no end in sight.

The defense throttled fuel-injected Oklahoma (5-2), reducing an offense that had averaged 52 points in its last three games to just one touchdown. And the Irish offense bloomed, with quarterback Everett Golson back at quarterback after a one-game, post-concussion respite and issuing knockout blows himself: A 50-yard bomb to receiver Chris Brown setting up his ultimately game-winning 1-yard scoring run.

November now begins with three dead-fish foes for the next three weekends. Barring an incomprehensible collapse, the Irish should head into a Nov. 24 showdown at USC unbeaten and attempting to finalize their argument for inclusion in the BCS title game, a southern California backdrop all too fitting for such a seismic moment.

"It just states that we are a contender in college football this year," receiver TJ Jones said. "People are calling us underdogs, trying to make reasons why we're losing. We have the mental and physical toughness to be a top contender."

Most critically, they also may have the quarterback for it. This may be Golson's transformative moment, producing the cold-blooded dagger strikes with the game on tilt late in the fourth quarter. He had missed throws and reads to stall drives before, and now, here came Oklahoma, rumbling to tie it 13-13 on a 1-yard rush from Blake Bell, a.k.a. The Belldozer, re-igniting the crowd with nine minutes left.

On the sideline, Irish coach Brian Kelly's instructions to his callow protege before the ensuing drive were minimal: Execute the plays we call. Two plays later, Kelly called for a play-action strike to Brown, the team's speediest receiver. Golson executed it flawlessly, a 50-yard detonation bringing Notre Dame deep into Oklahoma territory.

Five plays later, Golson was in the end zone, the Irish seizing a lead and stratospheric hopes they would not relinquish.

"I like people counting me out -- that's how I've always been," said Golson, who completed 13 of 25 attempts on the evening. "What we've been hearing was, a lot of people didn't think we could win this game. That kind of added fuel to my fire that was already burning."

Said Kelly: "He led. He was communicating, he was talking, he was doing things that you hope, as you go through this process, you start to see. He was confident. He was calm. All the things you need to see from your quarterback."

Because this is Notre Dame this year, because no plot line is too saccharine, it all would be capped by another Heisman Trophy snapshot: Four plays after Golson's score, a deflected pass from Oklahoma's Landry Jones landed in the gilded mitts of Te'o. A surge ensued, with a Kyle Brindza field goal and a why-not Theo Riddick touchdown run inflating the final margin.

But this was really another gnashing, rock-jawed triumph in a season of them. Mostly it was relying on field goals and a 62-yard Cierre Wood run and that resolute defense to hold off Oklahoma until punctuation arrived via Golson's arm and legs late. It is Kelly's plan come to life, and it is now Kelly's charge to manage an unmistakable BCS title contender, because where this stops nobody knows.

"If we start listening to 'national championship' and 'BCS,' we'll lose a football game," Kelly said. "They're a pretty smart group. If they start thinking about all those other things, we'll lose. It's what I told them in the locker room: Enjoy a great victory against Oklahoma, now let's find a way to beat Pittsburgh."

As Notre Dame's biggest Saturday in a decade drew to a close, Te'o fiddled with his phone, trying to locate text messages from his father. He hadn't read any of the many missives that already flooded in, and now he had another problem, which was Golson taking too long to finish his media debrief.

Te'o grumbled. After a program-altering win, with his own Heisman Trophy prospects ablaze, with a national championship tantalizingly and impossibly lingering on the horizon line, Manti Te'o was hungry.

"I'm going to enjoy it," Te'o said. "We're all going to enjoy it. Then we're going to wake up tomorrow and realize it wasn't a dream, and we're going to enjoy it some more. "

Tsunami warning issued for Hawaii after Canadian quake

Tsunami warning issued for Hawaii after Canadian quake

All of Hawaii is under a tsunami warning that officials believe could bring a wave as high as seven feet to certain harbors after a massive 7.7 earthquake struck off late Saturday night off the coast of western Canada.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center originally said there was no tsunami threat to Hawaii, but then issued the warning late Saturday. It remains in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday and a small craft advisory is in effect until Sunday morning. Officials are estimating a wave between three to seven feet for certain locations in Hawaii.
Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie issued an emergency proclamation directing authorities to keep residents off the coastal areas, and people in designated tsunami inundation zones are being warned to move to higher ground at least 30 feet above sea level. All roads connecting to these zones have been closed.
The center says the first tsunami wave could hit the islands by about 10:28 p.m. local time, which is 4:28 a.m. ET. State officials say evacuations are underway in low-lying coastal areas, especially in northeast areas of the islands
In addition, the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says parts of coastal Oregon and northern California have been placed under a tsunami advisory.
The alerts came after the U.S. Geological Survey said the 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit in the Queen Charlotte Islands area Saturday night.
A tsunami warning means an area is likely to be hit by a wave, while an advisory means an area could be hit.
A small tsunami was barely noticeable in Craig, Alaska, where a four-inch wave was recorded.
Dennis Sinnott of the Canadian Institute of Ocean Science said a 27 inch wave was recorded off Langara Island on the northeast tip of Haida Gwaii, formerly called the Queen Charlotte Islands. Another 21 inch wave hit Winter Harbour on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island.
"It appears to be settling down," he said. "It does not mean we won't get another small wave coming through."
The  temblor shook the waters around British Columbia and was followed by a 5.8 magnitude aftershock several minutes later. Several other aftershocks were reported.
The U.S. Coast Guard in Alaska said it was trying to warn everyone with a boat on the water to prepare for a potential tsunami.
Lt. Bernard Auth of the Juneau Command Center said the Coast Guard was working with local authorities to alert people in coastal towns to take precautions.
The quake struck 25 miles south of Sandspit, British Columbia, on the Haida Gwaii archipelago, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands. People in coastal areas were advised to move to higher ground.
Urs Thomas, operator of the Golden Spruce hotel in Port Clements said there was no warning before everything began moving inside and outside the hotel. He said it lasted about three minutes.
"It was a pretty good shock," Thomas, 59, said. "I looked at my boat outside. It was rocking. Everything was moving. My truck was moving."
After the initial jolt, Thomas began to check the hotel.
"The fixtures and everything were still swinging," he said. "I had some picture frames coming down."
Natural Resources Canada said in a statement that a major earthquake was felt across much of north and central British Columbia but that there were no immediate reports of damage. PrayForCanada became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.
"I was sitting at my desk on my computer and everything just started to move. It was maybe 20 seconds," said Joan Girbav, manager of Pacific Inn in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. "It's very scary. I've lived here all my life and I've never felt that."
The quake was felt on the mainland in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, which is across the Hecate Strait from the islands.
"Everyone felt it here," said city recreation director Rudy Kelly, who was setting up an evacuation center for people from the city's low-lying areas. He said the work was in anticipation of a tsunami wave.
Prince Rupert resident Grainne Barthe said fire trucks had blocked access to the waterfront when she came out of a restaurant.
"Everything was moving. It was crazy," she said. "I've felt earthquakes before but this was the biggest. It was nerve wracking. I thought we should be going under a table."
Residents rushed out of their homes in Tofino, British Columbia on Vancouver Island when the tsunami sirens sounded, but they were allowed to return about two hours after the quake.
Yvett Drews, a resident of Tofino, said she and dozens of others had gathered at the local elementary school where they were told by police that they could return home.
But while on the way home, Drews said she heard the tsunami sirens go off again.
"Well that just freaked me out, hearing the siren and the voice," she said.
Carsten Ginsburg, a resident on British Columbia's mainland in Bella Coola, said the quake lasted for about 40 seconds.
"It shook everything. The electricity went out, the power lines were swinging all over the place and stuff was falling off the shelves."
Ginsburg owns the Float House Inn on the public wharf in Bella Coola and had about six customers celebrating a birthday party.
Canada's largest earthquake since 1700 was an 8.1 magnitude quake on August 22, 1949 off the coast of British Columbia, according to the Canadian government's Natural Resources website. It occurred on the Queen Charlotte Fault in what the department called Canada's equivalent of the San Andreas Fault -- the boundary between the Pacific and North American plates that runs underwater along the west coast of the Haida Gwaii.
Saturday's quake is the strongest in Canada since 1958 when a 7.9 magnitude quake struck along the B.C.-Alaska border about 300 miles northeast of Saturday's quake, according to the website.

Ryan Vogelsong pitches SF Giants to brink of a World Series title

Ryan Vogelsong pitches SF Giants to brink of a World Series title

History is littered with big-name players who foundered in the postseason and relatively obscure guys who made their names when it counted most, in October.

Ryan Vogelsong can write a dissertation on the rising from obscurity. With a fourth consecutive postseason gem in Game 3 of the World Series on Saturday night, he moved a big step closer to etching his name on a championship ring.

Vogelsong threw 52/3 shutout innings in a 2-0 victory against the Tigers that gave the Giants a lead three games to none, which no team has overcome to win a World Series.

Matt Cain takes the mound at Comerica Park on Sunday night with a chance to pitch the Giants to a Series sweep, which Willie Mays’ New York Giants accomplished in 1954, and their second title in three years.

The hitters who drove in the second-inning runs against Anibal Sanchez, Gregor Blanco with a triple and Brandon Crawford with a single, are not household names outside of San Francisco either.

The Giants won their second consecutive 2-0 game, the franchise’s first successive shutouts in a single postseason since Ferdie Schupp and Rube Benton skunked the White Sox on back-to-back days in the 1917 World Series.

The Giants also have a six-game winning streak, during which they have not trailed and their pitchers have allowed a total of four runs.

Vogelsong is the fifth pitcher in the postseason, and first since Curt Schilling in 2001, to allow one or no runs in four consecutive starts. He has allowed three earned runs in 24 2/3 innings, a 1.09 ERA.

He hardly was perfect, allowing nine baserunners, but he escaped two jams with double plays and wormed out of his biggest mess — bases loaded with one out in the fifth inning — by striking out Quintin Berry and getting Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera to pop out to short.

Manager Bruce Bochy had Tim Lincecum and Jose Mijares warming in the bullpen as options to face Cabrera and Prince Fielder. But after Vogelsong walked Austin Jackson to load the bases, Bochy stayed seated in the dugout as pitching coach Dave Righetti visited the mound.

Bochy let Vogelsong go for the second and third outs. Pitcher did not disappoint manager.

Vogelsong got the final two outs of the sixth and gave way to Lincecum after he walked Andy Dirks. Lincecum got the third out and carried the shutout for another two innings.

Sergio Romo got the save after a Blanco’s long running catch into foul territory retired the inning’s first hitter, Jhonny Peralta.

The temperature was 47 degrees when Anibal Sanchez threw the first pitch in a scoreless first inning. Pablo Sandoval singled for his 22nd hit, tying J.T. Snow’s franchise record for a single postseason.

A lot has been made of the cold weather in Detroit. That did not figure to be a problem for Vogelsong, who grew up and still lives in eastern Pennsylvania.

Vogelsong reminded anyone who asked that he pitched six shutout innings at Wrigley Field in 2011 in a game that started at 43 degrees with a 20-mph wind.

Vogelsong encountered something even colder than the temperatures in Michigan — the Tigers’ bats. He allowed two baserunners in the first and again in the third but ended both innings with double plays. Prince Fielder hit into the first, Berry the second.

The Giants’ two-run first began with a four-pitch Hunter Pence walk, which would have seemed inconceivable the way he was hacking earlier in the postseason.

Pence has looked better at the plate the past two games after recognizing that he was pulling off the ball, or as kids in Little League call it, “stepping in the bucket.” He was easy prey to sliders away and was missing them by a foot.

By keeping his front shoulder closed he has more plate coverage and, more important, can see the ball longer.

“This game makes you adjust,” Bochy said. “I’m sure he didn’t like striking out three times” in Game 1.

Pence is a lot more dangerous on base than he is in the dugout after a strikeout. He stole second as Brandon Belt struck out and took third on a wild pitch.

In recognition of how tough Vogelsong can be, and how well Gregor Blanco can bunt, Tigers manager Jim Leyland played the infield in that early in the game with Blanco batting.

No matter, Blanco said. He built the count to 3-2 and tripled into the right-center gap to give the Giants a 1-0 lead, which grew to 2-0 when Brandon Crawford blooped a two-out single to center. Blanco pumped his fist as he jogged home.
